No rewards

   I once saw an ant climb a tree;

it slipped, it faltered,
fell a foot in a second,
then spent an hour reclaiming it.

I once saw an ant climb a tree;
it persisted, it hustled,
rushing upward as if a reward awaited,
only to find an ending instead.
